The annual Global iGaming Summit and Expo (GIGSE) this year is being held in San Francisco, California from April 23 to 25. It holds greater significance because three American states, New Jersey, Nevada and Delaware, have legalized certain online gambling verticals. Also New Jersey and the federal government are locked in a legal battle over allowing sports betting.

It is for this reason that the Montreal-based online gambling software development group Amaya Gaming has undertaken to become the lead sponsor for GIGSE 2013. Amaya Gaming boasts of subsidiaries of the caliber of Ongame, Cryptologic and Chartwell Technology that are well known globally in this field. Darcy Krogh, Amaya Gaming’s vice president of business development, pointed out that the American online gambling scene has become exciting and interesting because a growing number of US states are considering legalizing the activity. As of now the focus is more on online poker than other online gambling products, therefore Amaya Gaming will use this opportunity to showcase its poker network to American online operators who are licensed in the regulated jurisdictions. The delegates are invited and encouraged to visit the Amaya Poker Room and test-drive the company’s online solutions for casino, poker, lottery and live dealer. Amaya Gaming will also raffle one iPad Mini on each day at the summit. Amaya CEO David Baazov will be a panelist at the opening keynote for GIGSE on the convergence of gaming content and technology across multiple channels.

The agenda for the discussions over three days is a formidable one. On the opening morning the focus is on creating laws that make business and consumer sense. One of the problems of the likely state-by-state online gambling regulation in the United States will be low liquidity for poker rooms. One of the discussions will be on overcoming this drawback through multi-state compacts. On the afternoon of April 23 the topic for discussion is strategy and investment. An important topic for discussion on April 24 is the acquisition and retention of customers. Ewa Bakun of Clarion Gaming stresses the importance of a strategy for converting the free play “freemium” online casino gambler into a premium online casino gambler. On the final day, each of the American states that have legalized online gambling or are considering this step will be individually discussed.

Apart from the formal discussions and exhibits, GIGSE will provide opportunities for networking beyond summit hours. The main ones will be the two evening events sponsored by WordPlay and IGT respectively. Limited capacity meeting-style breakfast sessions have also been planned with key speakers.
