Different kinds of bets will have different maximum limits. For example, the maximum you can play on a "straight bet" (i.e., any individual number) is $15. A "Split Bet" which is made on adjacent numbers carries a maximum of $20. A "Square Bet," which is placed at the intersection of four numbers, is a maximum of $30. The "Dozen Bet," which is placed on the "1st 12," "2nd 12," or "3rd 12," are a maximum of $70.
"Inside" bets are those that are within the standard roulette layout, i.e., that which contains the numbers between 0 and 36.
"Outside" bets are outside of the standard layout, and include all the proposition bets.
Here are more terms and explanations for some of the bets at the roulette table:
- Street Bet - also known as a "Three-number bet," it encompasses any three numbers in a row on the table.
- Line Bet - this is also a "Six-number bet," and it covers six numbers in two adjacent rows on the table.
- Column Bet - paying off at 2-to-1, it covers an entire column of numbers on the table and is placed at the bottom of that column.
- Even-Money Bet - the player bets on 18 numbers at once, whether it be numbers by sequence (e.g., 1-8), color (red or black), or odd or even. Naturally, it pays at even money.
Most of the bets you can make will carry a negative expectation of 5.24%.
