There's this common myth that I've read when people talk about both online casino progressive as well as those you'd find typically featured in land based casinos that I asked the Wizard of Odds at one point in regards to.

The misconception is in that people think that when progressive jackpots whether they be at online casinos or offline reach a certain level they're about to hit or they're hot and should be played. Obviously this isn't the case as the odds of hitting a progressive jackpot statistically is the same with each spin for each player and every single spin that's made on the game provided that the slot is a game where the progressive jackpot win would be produced via a line win combo on a specific payline vs. those that are based on random external events (eg. Major Millions vs. Mega Moolah) at Microgaming powered online casinos.

Basically what happens when a casino progressive is considered hot is just that because it's reached a high value there'll be more play though on the game thus increasing the likelihood of a potential hit. This is especially true when jackpots reach well over 1.0 Million in value. I know that me personally I generally play these bigger progressives when they reach these higher amounts as I for one know that my chances are the same regardless of whether the jackpot is 250K or 1.0M+.

Just figured that people should be clear about this and know that there is no increased chance in your probability of hitting the big jackpot when the size of the jackpot is bigger.

I used to be fairly ignorant in my understanding of progressives and would always flock to play them when they reach rather large jackpot values. But since I know that the odds of me hitting one when it's big or small are identical I play them all the time now and really don't care whether they're at the maximum values. I'm still happy if I win 250K vs 1 million as it would definitely make a difference in our lives.

I'm not overly familiar with progressive and how they work myself so I must say that I would be one of the people that are clueless in regards to this aspect of gaming that's being discussed here in this post.

I for one always though that as progressive jackpots reached higher amounts that they were easier to hit as casinos would want them to actually hit. I suppose my assumption on this was wrong.
