The Three Mistakes Intermediate Blackjack Players Consistently MBy: Fabian Rictor, Thursday December 11th 20140 Comments Email Print In the online blackjack world, there are three important levels of play. On the beginning level, players learn general ideas on how to play. Intermediate players learn somewhat more complicated ideas like what the weak and strong dealer cards are and how basic strategy works. Then advanced players learn all of the rules and all of the exceptions so that they can play almost perfectly in any game. On the track from the intermediate level to the advanced level, there are some big habits that you'll have to unlearn, and we're going to show you what three of those habits are. The first big habit that intermediate players have to drop is assuming that all weak dealer cards are the same. In order starting from the weakest, these dealer cards are 6, 5, 4, 3 and 2. It's important to note that 2s and 7s are only marginally different from each other in terms of the dealer's chances of going bust, and often you're going to take a different action with a 2 than you do with the rest of the weak dealer cards. A good example of this is when you have a hard 12. You should actually hit against a 2 and stand with a 3-6 even though you would also stand with 2-6 if you had 13 instead. Another important mistake that intermediate players make a lot is surrendering entirely too often. There are only two or three situations where you should be surrendering in most blackjack games, and these spots only come up a time or two each session on average. If you surrender too often, then you're giving away a lot more value than if you don't surrender enough because forgetting to surrender is a small mistake while surrendering a hand you shouldn't have is usually a big one. Finally, we have one of the mistakes that even strong intermediate players make all the time, and that's not adjusting to the specific rules of the blackjack variation that you're playing. If you aren't playing your normal game, then you need to read up on the changes in the rules for the game that you are playing and make strategic adjustments accordingly. Not all blackjack games play the same, and even small changes in the rules can mean big changes in what the correct strategies are in a lot of situations.
