The End For Marvel Online Slots

The date is finally out and it is March 31 2017. The Marvel Movies superhero branded online slots will be withdrawn from all Playtech online casinos on that date. A Playtech spokesman advised, “All Marvel games, branding, advertising, demo games, marketing material etc. are being removed from all of our licensees sites and replaced with other Playtech content. Our [Marvel] agreement has simply come to an end therefore we have to remove all games and associated material by March 31st.”

The issue started when Disney acquired the Marvel brand. Disney caters to the children’s market worldwide through its movies and merchandising and is therefore is not comfortable with one of its brands being connected with online gambling. Disney decided to let the Marvel contract with Playtech run its course but made it clear that the agreement will not be renewed. Earlier, Disney had refused to renew a similar contract for Marvel Comics branded slots with Cryptologic.

The first Playtech Marvel slots were launched in 2009, with Iron Man and The Hulk. There have been additions at regular intervals till it was clear that the contract cannot be extended. Over the last seven years players at Playtech online casinos have enjoyed 22 Marvel games. Most of these are video slots but some scratch cards and one online roulette are also included. Some of the more popular titles that will no longer be available include The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Spiderman – Attack of the Green Goblin, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Elektra and Thor The Mighty Avenger.

Most Playtech online casinos are informing their players and their affiliates about the impending move. Withdrawal of the Marvel branded casino games is the major issue. But most Playtech online casinos ran promotional activities like bonuses and tournaments based on the Marvel slots. Some of these were run by Playtech across all licensees. These have also been very popular. All these will be withdrawn as well.

Playtech has had plenty of time to prepare for the exit of the Marvel video slots and is ready with a range of alternatives. Last year the software provider launched the Age of the Gods slots series based on Greek mythology. These games use the same slots engine as the most popular Marvel titles. For example Iron Man 2 has been born again as King of Olympus and Prince of Olympus is an avatar of The Incredible Hulk. Players who have got used to superhero branded slots can go for the more recent releases based on Batman TV series and Superman movies.
