The Correct Thought Process for Playing High-Level BlackjackBy: Mark Freedman, Friday June 20th 20140 Comments Email Print When it comes to the game of blackjack, there are several factors that need to be weighed before you make your decision. In some situation, specific factors will matter more than others, and being able to identify what's most important and evaluate a situation based on the importance of those individual factors is critical in performing well. If you want to become a high-level blackjack player, then you'll need to have the correct thought process for figuring out which play is correct. We want to introduce you to a framework which will help you to move in the right direction with this. There are two pieces of information you must consider right away as soon as the hand is dealt. The first is the strength of the dealer's card. If it's two through six, then the dealer is weak, and if it's seven or higher, then the dealer is strong. Then you look at your own hand and whether it's soft or hard and if it's 17 or higher. From there, you'll have a general idea of how to play the hand based on a few cases. If you have a weak dealer and a soft hand with a total of 17 or lower, you're going to be doubling often to take advantage of the situation. If you have a weak dealer and a hard hand that's less than 17, then you're going to stand often to avoid busting yourself and giving the dealer as much of a chance to bust as possible. These are two situations where you have a big advantage, and they are your bread and butter when it comes to making up for the losses you'll get in situations where the house has the upper hand. When you're facing a strong dealer card no matter what kind of hand you have, you're going to be hitting often to try to get a high total of 17 or more. This is your main way to win and to hold off the dealer's advantage because these are the types of hands that the dealer will usually make with strong cards. These cases listed above give you the right ideas to think about, but then you have to be the one to make the correct decision based on those factors. This is the right path to take to build the correct thought process for blackjack.
