The Classic Fruit Machine SlotsBy: Joan Peppin, Thursday June 11th 200910 Comments Email Print A certain type of classic slot machine, known as the fruit machine, is very popular in the United Kingdom. It was commonly found in British pubs and also in arcades. The earliest versions of these machines had fruit symbols and dispensed fruit flavored chewing gum as prizes and hence the name fruit machine. Video Example and Demo of A Fruit Machine at Microgaming Casinos: Attention:In order to view our video example of a Microgaming Fruit Machine game you'll need to have the Adobe Flash player installed on your computer. Get Flash Player - Click Here The fruit machine is similar to the classic 3 reel single payline slot in some respects and different in others. Like any 3 reel slot the reels spin and come to rest. If the payline shows a winning combination as described in the pay table then the player receives a payout. However the fruit machine has certain features that are usually not present in 3 reel slots. One set of features consist of trails and sub games that offer additional payouts. The other set of features are holds and nudges. A nudge allows the player to rotate a reel of his choice by one step, thereby displaying the next symbol in the payline. A hold is freezing one of the reels and re-spinning the other two. Fruit machines offer repeat nudges, in which the player can execute another nudge after the first one, and hold after a nudge. With the advent of online gaming, software providers began to replicate the features in online slots thereby giving rise to online fruit machines. Microgaming has many such slots in its portfolio. Cash 'n Curry, Dubya Money, Game On and Pub Fruity are the more popular Microgaming fruit machines. Cash 'n Curry is a fruit machine with an Indian cuisine theme. The symbols on the reels are Ruby Ring, Melon, Lime, Pint, Bars, Chili, Poppadom and Seven. Thus they reflect a mix of the original fruit symbols and the theme of the slot. Cash 'n Curry has a trail feature. This feature is activated by an event outside the reels. The trail has 24 squares. The player proceeds along the trail based on the number he spins. When he lands on a square he performs the required action and wins additional credits. Cash 'n Curry also has the hold and nudge features. Game On is a fruit machine with a football theme. The symbols on the reels are a mix of football icons and fruits. They are World Cup, Whistle, Pith Helmet, Boot, Melon, Lemon, Red Seven and Cherries. Game On has a bonus game on the second screen known as Soccer Safari. This game is activated by three football symbols. The game is a stop and win type of game. The game has three flashing meters with seven levels each. One meter is randomly chosen for the game. A light flashes through each level. When the Stop button is clicked the light stops at one level revealing the multiplier. The maximum multiplier in this game is 1,000x. Game On also has the hold and nudge features. Pub Fruity has the original fruit machine symbols of Pub Fruity, Bells, Bar, Watermelon, Grapes, Orange, Lemon and Cherry. It does not have the nudge and hold features in the base game but has two bonus games instead, the Drinks Trail bonus game and the Dart Contest bonus game. The Drinks Trail bonus game is like the trail game described earlier. It offers free spins, multipliers and bonus nudges. Darts is a popular pub game and fits with the theme. In the Dart Contest bonus game the player has to pick one of the three contestants and is paid according to the position in the dart game of the contestant chosen. These games definitely are more entertaining then traditional 3 reel slot games especially in comparison to those that you'll typically find at online casinos. Compared to 5 reel video slots games I would have to say that these would be my next favorite games in line.

I'm still not really sure about what the difference is between a fruit machine or simply a more elaborate 3 reel slot machine game but these games look pretty nice!

I've recently switched to spending most of my time playing at a Microgaming casino. I used to be a big fan of William Hill casino but no longer I find them to offer poor service as an online casino. Anyways I've tried some of the Microgaming fruity pub machines and found them to be quite enjoyable. They're not as elaborate as some you might actually find in the UK but none the less they are entertaining and really fun to play.

UK fruit machines and this concept for a game seems a little bit strange to me. These games really don't seem like all that much more then elaborate slots games with bonus rounds. It's similar to what I envision pachislots being like.

Being that I live in the UK I'm quite familiar with Fruit Machine type games and I do think that Microgaming has in fact done a great job in their execution on developing these games. I also think that the Cryptologic Fruit Machine games are done quite well too.

I've checked out both the Microgaming and Cryptologic Fruit Machine games and wasn't a huge fan of either of them actually. I think they need to still to some work on them. I do think that I prefer the Furit pub games that Microgaming has developed over those offered by Cryptologic though.

Better left to the pubs I agree although I do agree that Microgaming has done a great job with these games. As has Cryptologic for all those looking for a change from the Microgaming Fruit Machine games.

I agree with Phizzle... fruit machines are hard to execute on properly mainly due to the fact that there are so many elements to these games. I do however thing that Microgaming has done the best job of all who have attempted these games for integration into online casinos!

In the UK these games are immensely popular and I think it's because of the fact that even more then these Microgaming Fruit Machines the real games are far more elaborate with multi-stage bonus rounds and some really exciting features that make the games fun to play and exciting especially when you're pounding back a few pints. I think that MGS has done a fairly good job in their execution of these games and think that they'll probably just keep getting better should they continue to produce these games. I did notice that they are building these games in Adobe Flash (you can see by right mouse clicking when in the games themselves) which leads me to beleive that some of the next generation Fruit Machine games they produce will far surpass these as Flash gives them a lot more freedom as to what they can do with such games. Not a huge fan myself of these kinds of games I've found that they're not all that dissimilar to 3 reel slots games you know the traditional boring ones that most online casinos still offer.
