Similar Games Feature in software

Online casinos do not like their players to log off and leave. This is understandable because the more the players wager the better it is for the online casinos. Therefore casinos offer incentives for players to wager more through a variety of promotions. However there are some inducements that are built into the software and act subliminally. The"similar games" feature that is present in software from Microgaming and Cryptologic is an example.

The similar games feature acts in the following manner. When the player exits a game he is presented with a list of similar games offered at the casino. If the player has liked the game that he has exited then he may be tempted to try out one of the suggested games. Thus he may start wagering on another game rather than exiting from the casino. Players will not take up this inducement all the time and not all players will take it up. But the online casino has nothing to lose. The feature is a part of the software and there is no extra effort involved on the casino’s part.

The feature functions somewhat differently in Microgaming and in Cryptologic online casinos. In Microgaming online casinos the player exits from the game by clicking the Game button. A pop up box opens asking the question"Have you played these similar games?" A list of five games is provided. If the player wants to play any of the suggested games he clicks on it to open that game. If the player does not want to play any of the similar games he clicks on the Close button. This takes the player back to the main menu. This suggested list of similar games may irk some players. Therefore Microgaming has provided a check box that says"Don’t display this screen again". By default this box is not checked. If the players checks it before hitting the Close button this feature should not appear again.

In Cryptologic online casinos players leave the game by clicking on the Exit Game button. Suppose the player is exiting from the slot game Bejeweled. A pop up box will appear that says,"Other Bejeweled players have also enjoyed …" The box has screenshots of six similar games. The player can go to any of the games by clicking on it. The games in the pop up box display the status of the game – Play or Download. If the status is Play the game will immediately open. If the status is Download the game will be queued for downloading. In Cryptologic online casinos the pop up box closes automatically after a few seconds. Hence if players want to access the similar games they have to act fast. Players who do not wish to use this feature in the future should check the"Please do not remind me again" check box.

The games in the similar games list will generally belong to the same games category. If the player is exiting slots then the games in the similar games list will be slots, if he is exiting a table game then the games in the similar games list will be a table game. The sub classifications in Cryptologic software are better and therefore the games in the similar games list are better matched than in Microgaming software.
