A unique feature is available in a few Realtime Gaming (RTG) online slots, which is called Feature Guarantee. In RTG slots the free spins bonus round is triggered when a specified alignment of symbols occurs. If this alignment does not occur for 150 spins then the free spins bonus round is automatically triggered by virtue of the Feature Guarantee feature.

The Feature Guarantee works as follows. On the top right hand corner of the game screen is the Feature Guarantee counter. It is set to 150 at the start. With every spin of the reels the counter decreases by 1 count. Therefore after 150 spins the counter shows 0 and the free spins are triggered. After the free spins bonus round has been executed the counter resets to 150 and the process is repeated. There are two instances when the counter resets to 150 even before it is exhausted. If the free spins bonus round is triggered by virtue of alignment of the required symbols at the end of any spin, then after the spins are complete the Feature Guarantee counter starts again with 150. The counter is valid for a given set of betting parameters. If players change the betting parameters, like bet amount per line, the counter will automatically reset to 150.

The Feature Guarantee is made more interesting by the Instant Trigger Chance. Activating this trigger gives the player a chance to trigger the free spins without getting the symbol alignment and without completing 150 spins. However, players should realize that this is only a chance and not a certainty. The trigger can fail and in that event the Feature Guarantee counter will reset to 150 without the player having received the benefit of the free spins.

The Instant Trigger Chance functions in this manner. Below the Feature Guarantee counter is the Instant Trigger Chance counter. This indicates the percent of success likely if the trigger is activated. As the Feature Guarantee counter decreases, the Instant Trigger Chance percent increases. Initially the increase is at 0.4% per spin, but later the rate of increase goes up. Next to the percent indicator is a Play button. When the player feels that he is ready to take a chance he can click the Play button. This takes players to a Feature Guarantee screen. There is a circle with a number of bands around the circumference. Some of the bands are red and some are green. The proportion of green bands corresponds to the percent chance of triggering the free spins bonus round. At this time the player can abort the Instant Trigger Chance and return to the main game. If the player wants to continue he should click the Play button. The green bands randomly get scattered around the circumference. Then a tracker rotates around the circumference. If it stops on a green band the free spins bonus round gets triggered. If it stops on a red band the main game is again activated. In either event the Feature Guaranteed counter resets to 150.

The first RTG slot game to incorporate the Feature Guarantee was a variant of Aztec's Treasure that was titled Aztec's Treasure Feature Guarantee. A recent release It's A Mystery also includes this feature and that accounts for the rekindled interest.
