Roulette Strategy
Roulette has some very rigid rules and is not as involved as other games, especially when compared to things like poker. Roulette is also a game of chance more so than some of the other table games. You are betting on a marble spin. There are still some individuals who believe in the strategy. The truth is that with Roulette there really isn't any strategy that will help you win big. Casinos have rules so that the house edge will win more than you, but there are a few things you should consider regarding the Roulette play. They can make it a little easier for you to win more often.
- There is a surrender option with Roulette. This is not the same as Blackjack Surrender though, so try not to get confused. With Roulette you have an option in which you play the outside bets. In this surrender option if the marble lands on zero you will only lose half the bet, rather than the whole amount. The house edge is based on the zero and double zero, so if you get to lose half the bet rather than all that makes the house edge a little lower. It also means you can earn a bit more during the play. When you place the outside bet you earn 1 to 1 which means you get smaller winnings than the inside bet, but you don't lose as much.
- With Roulette you have two types of tables to play on. You have the double zero or the single zero. The European wheel is only going to have one zero and the American game offers the single zero and double zero, which set them apart. The European tables are found most often in Europe, which is no surprise. However, the surprise comes when you look at the house edge. For the European table you have a house edge of 2.7 percent and a house edge of 5.26 for the American wheel. So when you play Roulette you want to go for the lower house edge as that is more to your advantage. You can find these wheels online and in some land casinos. You get more winnings with the lower house advantage.
- On European tables or those with only one zero you can have the rule of 'en prison.' This rule states you will place an even money bet and if the wheel lands on zero the bet is imprisoned. On the next spin the bet's fate is decided. In other words if the number you bet on wins the second time you get the bet back, but no additional winnings. If another zero is obtained you are still imprisoned. If you lose then the bet is whisked away.
While there are some that believe in strategy systems, they are usually based on statistical analysis of your options. While you have a probability of the marble landing on a certain number and different types of bets, you can predict if you would be right. You can only say you have more of a chance to win on say, odd numbers than you would on the number 7. The individual numbers all have the same odds, so it doesn't matter if the number 13 hasn't come up in 7 spins. In this case the strategy may be full of false hope. When you bet you need to bet on a wider range of numbers to get a better chance of winning, because you are betting on say 18 numbers and one out of that pot could be the winner.
You don't want to play American Roulette if the other option is available. The wheel is against you in that version. You may also want to look out for the 'En Prison' or 'Surrender' option for a chance to recoup losses.
