Portugal Online Gambling Regulator Partners eCOGRA

eCOGRA is well known in the online casino industry as the auditor to some of the biggest Internet casinos. Portugal is one of the latest countries looking at legalizing and regulating online gambling. eCOGRA announced yesterday that Portugal’s online gambling regulatory body, Servico de Regulacao e Inspecao de Jogos (SRIJ) has approved eCOGRA. The independent compliance testing and standards company will now act as a certifying organization of gambling technical systems that Portugal intends to put in place. eCOGRA was awarded this assignment following a tough assessment of its staff, technical capability and relevant industry experience.

eCOGRA chief executive Andrew Beveridge commented at length on this approval. He said that eCOGRA was now among the major providers of compliance testing and certification services to online gambling operators functioning across multiple regulated jurisdictions in Europe. As the Portuguese online gambling market becomes regulated, there will be considerable demand there as well and eCOGRA intends to be in the thick of things. Shaun McCallaghan, business development manager at eCOGRA, was the driving force behind this achievement. He said that the company had worked hard and in close liaison with SRIJ to achieve accreditation. Shaun congratulated the eCOGRA technical staff for meeting the stringent standards set by the Portuguese regulator.

eCOGRA was founded in 2003 to set and improve operational standards and player safety in the online gambling space. At that time players had to be given the confidence that the random number generator based software is absolutely fair and eCOGRA was instrumental in that endeavor.
