Pinball Roulette from PlaytechBy: Joe Valentino, Friday April 16th 20103 Comments Email Print In roulette, players wager on a combination of numbers displayed on the layout. Then one number is called. If the player's wager covers this number he is paid out otherwise he loses his wager. The important thing is that the number has to be called randomly, with any number having an equal chance of being called. In land casinos and the usual online roulette games this randomness is achieved through the wheel. But it could be done in any other way without affecting the gambling structure of the game. Pinball Roulette, a game from the portfolio of Playtech, uses the mechanisms of the normal pinball machine to generate a random number. The roulette layout is the same as is used in normal roulette games. The bets offered are the same and are placed in the usual manner. Neighbor bets are also offered. After the player places his wagers he clicks on the Bet button. The roulette layout which spanned the entire screen contracts and occupies a small space on the right side and a pinball machine occupies the main area. A plunger releases the ball as in normal pinball games and it comes to the main area that is studded with bumpers. There are passive bumpers that just deflect the ball in its downward path and active bumpers that push the ball away in a completely different direction. This generates randomness in the ball trajectory. The ball ultimately falls into a pocket that bears one of the numbers on the roulette layout. In order to create further randomness, the strip containing the pockets is not static but moves along the bottom. There fore the position of the numbered pockets also keep on changing. The number of the pocket in which the ball falls is the number called and all bets are settled accordingly. Incase the player wins and receives a payout he has the option to play a gamble game. This game is optional and the player can simply collect his payout and move to the net roulette game. In the gamble game the player cam multiply his payout by up to 10x if he is successful. If he is unsuccessful he can lose the payout won in the main game. The gamble game is played on a different pinball machine. The playing area of the machine has bumpers with multipliers marked on them. If the ball hits a bumper the player's staked payout is multiplied by the corresponding multiplier. The maximum multiplier is 5x, but if the player is lucky he may get a bonus ball once and hence can get a maximum multiplier of 10x. Pinball Roulette has some features found in the usual Playtech roulette games. The Turbo Bet button eliminates the animation of the ball falling through the play area of the pinball machine and displays the final result directly. It is doubtful that many players would utilize this option, because the objective of Pinball roulette is to enjoy the pinball mechanism. If a player wants to turn it off he might as well play a normal roulette variant with the animation turned off. There is also an Auto Bet feature that enables the player to play 1, 2, 5 or 10 consecutive game rounds with the same bet. Pinball Roulette can be played at all Playtech online casinos however can only be played as of present in their flash no download version of casinos. Pinball and roulette don't go together very well if you ask me. Might be interesting and fun to play for a while however I'm of the belief that all of these kinds of table games like roulette, blackjack, etc... are better played in land based casinos where they're generally more entertaining when played around lots of other players.

Interesting concept for a roulette variant. I've always found that companies like Playtech seem to really be able to innovate when it comes to this sort of thing.
