Almost all casinos offer online slots tournaments. These tournaments are very popular because usually players are required to stake small amounts. The question that new players often ask is what sort of strategy to adopt while participating in online tournaments. Should they wager large amounts each spin in the hope of winning large payouts and increasing chip balances significantly but risk losing their existing balance? Or should they play safe and wager small amounts for steady gains? The first is referred to as aggressive wagering and the second as conservative wagering.
There are many different ways in which these questions can be answered. One way is based on some of the important parameters of the slots tournaments. The relevant ones in this case are the starting stack and the time allowed. In qualitative terms the starting stack can be small or large and the time allowed for wagering can be less or more. Putting both together there are four possible alternatives. These are large starting stack and less time for wagering, large starting stack and more time for wagering, small starting stack and less time for wagering and small starting stack and more time for wagering. Whether the player should wager aggressively or conservatively depends on the alternative he is faced with.
If the player is participating in an online slots tournament that offers a large staring stack and less time for wagering it does not make sense in wagering small amounts at each spin of the slot game. If the player adopts a conservative approach in this case then the time allotted for wagering will be completed without the player effectively leveraging his starting stack. By adopting an aggressive approach the player risks losing his chip stack, but this is something that he has to accept. In any online slots tournament there will be hundreds of players. And in the given scenario most of them would be wagering aggressively. Whereas many may fail there would be some who would succeed in this strategy and top the leader board. It is this lot that the online slots tournament player is competing with and therefore he too has to adopt an aggressive strategy.
On the other extreme is the scenario of a small chip stack and more time allotted for wagering. Here the online slots tournament player has plenty of time and therefore is in no hurry. He should not risk losing his chip stack well before his wagering time expires. The player should begin with wagering small amounts and try and build up a chip balance. As his chip balance increases he should increase the amount wagered per spin of the slot game. Exactly when he should do this and at what rate he should increase his wagering are not easy questions to answer. The player will intuitively get a feel of this as he plays more online slots tournaments and accumulates more experience. One of the issues that need to be factored into this decision is the amount that he is chasing on the leader board. The more the difference between the player’s balance and that of the leader the more aggressive the player has to get.
In the case of the other two alternatives the player has to adopt an intermediate strategy. Again the exact strategy can be learned only by experience but the above tips will act as good indicators.
