New Hampshire Delays Online Casino Opening

The debut of New Hampshire's online casino site has been postponed for a month in order to given them "time to educate state leaders." The announcement comes following the recent criticism of lottery officials for failing to properly inform legislators of its decision to operate an online gaming website. The site, which was scheduled to launch on July 1, will now only launch in August according to the new plans.

The lottery income in New Hampshire has been falling approximately $7 million short of the projected amount of $75 million. Their plans to launch an online gaming site were done so with the aim of filling in the gap between their projected income and their realized income.

Governor John Lynch requested from the New Hampshire lotteries that they aim to generate a minimum of $100 million annually. However, this new online site, while established with the aim to fulfill the Governor's request, came as a surprise to state representatives. They claimed not to have knowledge of it and some objected to the fact that the game expanded gambling in a way that had recently been rejected by the House. The delay in its launch has been scheduled in order to sooth lawmakers who are upset about not being consulted over the move.

The New Hampshire site has found its way around complicated UIGEA laws that bar online payments to internet gambling sites. The New Hampshire plans have provided land-based payment centers, in order to avoid the complications of UIGEA laws. Once payments have been processed from the land-based centers, players will be given access to the online gaming site. Players will buy tickets with an access code that can then be entered into the online gaming site, allowing them to play for the funded amount.

The games that players can choose from include baseball, super slots, New Hampshire poker or speed bingo. The tickets that players can buy allow them to play up to $100 per game. The 30-digit access code allows the players to play from their home computers.

To date, the Federal Authorities have made no comment on the plans in New Hampshire. Charlie MacIntyre, the executive director of the New Hampshire lottery, reported to the Nashua Telegraph: "the lottery if going to use the down time to educate state leaders about the new interactive game and its place in our portfolio of products."
