The leading online casino software provider Microgaming has done it again. It has released yet another format of video poker games. After Power Poker and Level Up Poker comes Reel Play Poker. Power Poker introduced multi hand video poker. Level Up Poker introduced sequential hands with multiplied payouts. Reel Play Poker is video poker with a slots twist.

The first Reel Play Poker game is in the Jacks or Better variant. The game can be accessed from the video poker section in the Games Menu. A separate tab is provided for Reel Play Poker within the video poker section. The players have to select the number of paylines, the number of coins per payline and the coin size. Jacks or Better Reel Play Poker has 20 paylines and players can wager up to 20 coins per payline.

After setting the betting parameters the player clicks the Deal button. A demonstration reel is displayed below the main reels and five cards are dealt from a single deck as in a normal video poker hand. The Microgaming software marks the cards that should be held as per optimum strategy, but the player is free to make his own choice. When the player has marked the cards he wants to hold then he clicks the Spin button and the game moves to the main reels.

The main reels are laid out like a five reel video slot with 20 paylines and three rows across the reels. The reels that correspond to the held cards are first filled with those cards. The remaining reels spin and are randomly filled with other cards. Then there is the slots twist. The video poker hands are not evaluated in only the horizontal rows, but in all 20 paylines. This is somewhat like a 20 hand video poker game, with the difference being that there are not 20 independent hands. The hands are formed by the crisscrossing of paylines across the three rows as in slots games.

Each of the 20 paylines is independently evaluated against the pay table corresponding to the number of coins per payline. Hence if a player has wagered 10 coins per payline the payout table will automatically be adjusted and the payouts shown will not have to be multiplied by the number of coins. The payouts for each winning payline are accumulated and credited to the player's balance. The maximum payout for a royal flush with 20 coins per payline is 16,000 coins. If all 20 paylines have a royal flush then the payout will be 320,000 coins, which is the maximum for the game.

Reel Play Jacks or Better is live at all Microgaming online casinos. CasinoAdvisor recommends Platinum Play, River Belle and All Jackpots.
