Learn Deuces Wild Straight Flush Draws Through Concrete Examples

Deuces Wild is easily one of the hardest games to learn to play well in any given online casino. The reason for the high level of difficulty is that players have to learn the correct strategies in a wide range of scenarios because of the wild cards. Many of these situations are anti-intuitive or contain nuances that aren't immediately apparent, even if you've been playing for a long time. What we want to do here is break down some of those nuances in a way that makes sense by looking at certain types of straight flush draws that can happen with wild cards.

First we're going to look at scenarios with a single wild. If you have four cards to a straight flush, one of those is a wild, and the other three are what we'll call singletons. These singletons and their relationship to each other will determine the type of draw you have. If all three of them are of consecutive rank, and if all three of them are five or higher, than you have what's called a major straight flush draw. Otherwise, you have a minor straight flush draw.

If we change that slightly to 2c8d7d5dAc, then because the three singletons aren't consecutive, you have a minor draw. Along similar lines, if we have 2c6d5d4dAc, then we still have a minor straight flush draw because not all three of the singletons are five or greater. Making this distinction is really important because there's a particular decision you'll have to make sometimes between two different ways to play your hand where it comes in handy.

Suppose we are dealt 2c7s7h6h5h. We have a major straight flush draw, but we also have three of a kind in sevens. Which way should we play our hand? The rule of thumb here is that you should keep three of a kind over a minor straight flush draw, but you should keep a major straight flush draw over three of a kind. It's an easy way to break down a very difficult situation, and it takes into account the nuances that really set this game apart from other forms of video poker in online casinos.
