Latest Trends in Casino SoftwareBy: Mark Freedman, Wednesday May 12th 20103 Comments Email Print Online gaming operators license software from software developers. Traditionally this process has been exclusive in the sense that a gaming operator would offer online casino games from a single software developer at his web site. The brand equity of the software developer would rub off on the online gaming operator, who would be able to create a niche market based on the unique casino games. This model still works for a majority of the gaming operators. There are operators like the Fortune Lounge group that offer only Microgaming casino games or the English Harbour group that offer only Vegas Technology games. However this is by no means the rule. Today many online gaming operators are of the opinion that they get restricted by offering games from only one software provider. Online players like variety. They will wager at online casinos powered by other software developers in order to get that variety. If an operator can offer the variety at his web site then he may have better customer retention. Many operators offer a number of other online gaming products such poker, sports betting and bingo. They have a portal for casino games, usually called "casino", in which games from a single software developer are offered. They also have another casino games portal in which a range of games from different software developers is offered. In this way they are able to offer exclusiveness at one portal and variety at the other. Betfair is one example of such an online gaming operator. Its regular casino portal is powered by Playtech. There it offers the complete range of Playtech online casino games. There are no offerings from other software developers. Betfair also has another portal called Arcade. There the best casino games from different software developers are available. Bejeweled, Cubis and Marvel Comics superhero slots from Cryptologic can be played. Among the other slot games are Amazon Wild from Gaming Technology Solutions, Caribbean Nights from Orbis Technology and Deal Or No Deal from Virtue Fusion. William Hill is another online gaming operator that follows this practice. Its regular online casino is powered by Playtech and its Games portal has casino games from other software developers. Not all online gaming operators follow the practice of having two casino portals. Some offer games from different software developers in a single casino portal. One of the best examples of such an online gaming operator is Virgin Casino. Its basic software is from WagerWorks. All the excellent WagerWorks slot games that have their basis in IGT land slot machine games are on offer. These include the Monopoly slots, Cluedo, Battleships, Dragons and Dungeons and many more. There is an excellent collection of Cryptologic slot games such as King Kong, Call of Duty 4, Bejeweled and Spider Man. There are a number of online slots developers that create slots games independently. Earlier they had to supply their games to software developers who produced entire casino software packages and licensed those packages to gaming operators. NextGen Gaming with slots like Dolphin Reef, Beat the Bank and Doctor Love is one such slots developers. Now NextGen Gaming can deal directly with gaming operators like Virgin Casino and players will find many NextGen Gaming slots at Virgin Casino. I beleive that more and more online casino software companies are going head to head competing pretty hardcore against one another. The competition is great though as it means really more and more that we get at the end of the day in terms of better products from which to choose from and play on.

The trends in online casino software seem to be changing all the time. I think that the hottest thing for online casinos right now in terms of what I'm seeing most of them actively pursuing is really that of doing branded games. I think that there are many online casinos out there that are on the ball with this and it's really great as I love playing these kinds of games.
