With the fragmented nation based regulation that is currently underway in Europe, there will be online gambling news coming from diverse quarters. This has been the case over the last few days.

Among the software providers, Playtech has made the largest new inroads in Europe. Now Playtech has announced a customized live dealer casino for Spanish players based on a deal with Casino Gran Madrid, which is the country’s largest land casino. This became essential because Spanish online gambling regulations require that live dealer games must originate from a land casino situated in Spain. Using dedicated space provided at Casino Gran Madrid, Playtech will use its technology to create a live dealer studio. The broadcast will be in HD quality and native Spanish dealers will interact live with players in real time. Aviv Nankin, Head of Live Games at Playtech, said that the partnership with Casino Gran Madrid would enable Playtech to deliver to the Spanish market, a new live gaming facility appealing to both existing and new licensees.

In Italy a partnership between local online and land gambling giant SNAI and UK software and network provider GameAccount has been growing from strength to strength. It also offers mobile gambling to Italian players. The latest announcement revealed that the mobile gambling content is being enhanced by the addition of iOS and Android versions of real money roulette. And this is only the first of several apps planned for the Italian market in 2013. However, the Italian online gambling market is in the doldrums and needs a huge fillip. A report from the regulator AAMS showed that online gambling revenues increased by a meager 1.9% in 2012 over the previous year. The summer of 2012 was encouraging but was negated by a poor performance in the winter months. Though casino and cash poker verticals showed an increase, it was offset by a steep decline in poker tournament revenues. The experts have predicted that the fillip in this declining market can only come from online slots action. Online slots have been permitted since December 2012. Italian online operators are keeping their fingers crossed as software providers step up the offerings. Whether the expected revival happens will be known sooner than later.

The third online gambling news item comes from the Netherlands. The Dutch regulatory authority has announced a “meet and greet” event with online gambling providers on January 28 to discuss the regulation of the online gambling market. The idea is not to define policy or initiate agreements but to exchange information and ideas on online gambling. The spokesperson said that it was important for the regulator to build good relationships with the market.
