Isle of Man is a leading online gambling jurisdiction and hosts 25 active license holders. The pioneering online gaming software developer Microgaming is also located there. The e-Gaming sector is the country's fastest growing sector and employs more than 600 people in different capacities. Realizing the importance of e-Gaming to the Isle of Man economy, the government has announced an important initiative. The Department of Economic Development and Hamblin Employment Group will hold the first ever foundation course for e-Gaming for people considering or starting a career in this sector.

This course will be held over three days starting from 21st September 2010 at St John's Mill, Tynwald Mills. It has been designed to increase the participants' awareness and understanding of the e-Gaming sector and how they should present themselves to a potential employer. The basis for the course content is a research into what the larger e-Gaming companies specifically look for in candidates. The course consists of four modules. Module 1 outlines what e-Gaming is. Module 3 is the most important one in a sense because it discusses the risks and social responsibilities of e-Gaming. Modules 2 and Modules 4 are directly concerned with immediate employment. They respectively discuss the ideal employee and teach CV skills and interview techniques. The cost of participation will be split between the participant and the Department for Economic Development.

Garth Kimber, Head of e-Gaming Development at Isle of Man government's Department of Economic Development expressed delight at the support that this initiative has received from the e-Gaming industry that will potentially employ the participants. He singled out the contribution of Lisa Underwood, e-Gaming Development Manager, who has used her own experience to devise the course. Alex Downie, MLC representing e-Gaming in the Isle of Man government, said, "Not only does this raise the profile of the industry both locally and further a field, but it is also a show of support for our existing employers in the sector and will assist them in increasing their employment of Manx workers."

Emma Allard, Chief Executive Officer at Hamblin, also gave her opinion in the press release announcing the initiative. She first thanked the Department of Economic Development and some of the major e-Gaming companies of Isle of Man who were involved with the e-Gaming Foundation Course. She added, "Having the right attitude, work ethos and high levels of self-awareness are vital attributes to potential e-Gaming employers. We hope that attending delegates will find that the course gives them a real advantage in securing work in the e-Gaming industry."
