How to Play Red Dog Perfectly 100 Percent of the TimeBy: Adam Richards, Friday August 22nd 20140 Comments Email Print When it comes to casino games, a lot of the non-slot titles are slowly being forgotten in the online environment. Traditional table games played with cards are starting to be slowly pushed to the side as slots and interactive games of that sort are pushed as being the next big thing. One reason for this is that it relates more easily to the "attention deficit" culture, but another reason is that there are more tools at your disposal when programming for online games than when you need to host table-based live games. One of those games, and a classic that a lot of players would really enjoy if they gave it a chance, is Red Dog. There are two cards dealt after you place a bet, and if they are the same, then you get to play what amounts to a bonus round. A third card is dealt, and if that matches the rank of the first two cards, then you get a special payout of 11:1 that's the highest payout in the game. If that's not the case, then you have to deal with the spread and what the spread means for your hand. In Red Dog, the spread is how many ranks there are between the two cards that have been dealt. If the cards are 8 and 6, for example, then the spread is one because there's only one card between those two. On two cards that are consecutive, there is a spread of zero, and the hand is considered a push with a new hand immediately dealt after. If the spread is one or higher, then you'll be given an opportunity to double your wager. After you take that option, a third card is dealt. If the third card falls between the first two in rank, then you win a payout based on the size of the spread. Spreads of one are paid at 5:1, spreads of two are paid 4:1, and spreads of three are paid at a rate of 2:1. If the spread is four or higher, then you will be paid at 1:1. You should double your bet if and only if the spread is seven or higher no matter how many decks you play with. This is perfect strategy, and it will cause you to never make a mistake. On average, the house advantage in this game is about 2.4 percent.
