A recent study was completed by Forsa. This study was completed on the German online gambling websites to see how many Germans are actually gambling online. The study has shown that about 2.2 million Germans have taken to the online gambling. They have further broken these numbers down to show just where they are placing their bets.
About 700,000 of the gamblers are betting on the lott0 and 430,000 are playing poker games online. These numbers are a significant increase in the last few months to year. Forsa's study was completed for Bitkom and ICT as a way to track what is going on in the industry. The discovered has shown that about 500,000 are also betting on sporting events. 96 percent of those studied have been betting on Bundesliga matches a very popular option in Germany.
About 1/6 are gambling on football events. This research shows plainly what is going on in the industry with the betting and growth for online gambling. The fact is about 2.2 billion Euros are being wagers every year in these online casinos. Added to that projections are for 5 billion Euros to be bet in the Year 2010. That is over half the current amount right now.
Germany is not the only place seeing increases in there gambling. France has just had to change their prohibition, and while they are going to start out small it is very likely they will grow in the next years at a very fast rate. Countries that have also just started the online gambling such as Sweden are already seeing about a billion in online betting. These amounts coupled with the billions worldwide who find online gambling a great source of fun will just keep getting bigger and bigger.
In Germany as more of the younger generations reach an age where they can sign up to gamble there are going to be increases in numbers. Some of those polled work from home, are retired, or just love to gamble where it is more convenient.
There is no getting around the fact that online gambling is becoming a huge industry that will continue to effect the land based casinos in some of these regions. The UK was one of the most prominent countries in the online gambling industry. In fact a lot of changes such as license renewals, increasing the amount of games offered, and much more have occurred.
Cryptologic, Playtech, RTG, IGT, and several of the other popular online gambling software companies have been increasing their sales and output of new games to meet the demands not only of German customers, but those around the world. Added to their games they have been offering more casinos through their names. Microgaming is the leader in online casinos worldwide at the moment. The question is not whether Germany will reach the projected 5 billion in Euros in 2010, it is will they exceed that projection in two years and if so how many players will they have at that time.
