All online gaming software providers offer video poker games. Though the games are essentially the same the customization options differ. Players must have an understanding of these options so that they can configure the games in a manner best suited to them. Rival Gaming offers seven of the more common variants of a video poker. This article provides basic tips on how to configure these video poker games.
In Rival Gaming online games the Option Menu is placed at the bottom left of the screen. Several options have been provided in the video poker games. The first is whether to play with the game speed set at Slow or Medium. When the game speed is set at Slow the cards are dealt one by one. When the game speed is set at Medium the hand is dealt together. In single hand games there is not much difference between these two speed options. But if the player is wagering on a 25 hand video poker game then the Slow speed becomes really dragging. Hence it is preferable to set the speed at Medium.
The next option is whether to enable the full screen or not. Again this option really does not come into play during single hand games. During 25 hand games the full screen option makes it a bit easier to see the cards. Rival Gaming does not offer Auto Play feature in the video poker games. Therefore it makes little sense to play these games while engaging in some other work on the computer because continuous decision-making is involved in the wagering. Hence the preferred option should be to enable the full screen mode.
The third option provided is whether to enable the audio and if so to set its volume on a scale from 1 to 10. There is no background music in the Rival Gaming video poker games, nor are there any dealer voices. The only audio is of the cards being dealt and of the win sounds. Hence players can disable the audio and listen to their own music while playing the game.
The Auto Hold feature is an important one and it should always be enabled. This feature automatically marks on hold the cards that make up a paying combination, if such a combination is dealt. Many times players, especially newbie players, overlook winning combinations and make an error in indicating which cards to hold. This can result in a drastic fall in the average payout percentage. Hence there is nothing lost whatsoever in enabling this feature. However there is an important note of caution. Enabling this feature does not mean that the player will not have to make a decision. The player will have to decide whether any of the remaining cards need to be put on hold or not. This is very important in the most commonly occurring case when there is no winning combination. The player would be required to put on hold cards that are likely to lead to a winning combination after the draw.
The final option is the Allow Double option. This option enables the gamble game in which players can try to double their payouts. The players who are not averse to taking risks and would like to try their hand at this option should enable it. Players who would not like to go for this option but are afraid that they may fall into the temptation should disable it. For other players it makes no difference whether the Allow Double option is enabled or not.

I've seen the Rival poker and have to say that I still think that Microgaming and a few of the other providers out there have them beat in terms of quality of game play and amount of options. Especially Microgaming in this regard.
