Online casinos and how they work exactly
I'm not sure how many of you out there are into the technical aspects of online casinos but I for one with a background in programming am always interested in seeing how things work.
While tinkering around with some of the online casino software I have installed on my computer today I decided that I wanted to check out what the files in the directory of where the casinos are installed look like. Firstly everything is in compiled c++ code so there's not really all that much that you can see or have an opportunity to dissect but what I did find interesting is that the online casino software providers out there encrypt a lot of the files that they have in their systems. For example a standard .txt file is generally not part of any compiled code that's part of the software but are generally used for configuration files and information for which the software when launching or when these files are just required for something else. It's obvious that they're strict on this sort of thing for a reason. My belief is that they're strict on it because they don't want players changing any of the configuration elements to the game. Some games that they offer may have table betting limits or other game betting limits on the client side (I doubt it but it's possible) which could be why they wouldn't want players to be able to alter any of this kind of information.
Bottom line though is really that there's not all that much that you can gain from looking though these files on casinos that you have installed on your own computer. I've found that from the MGS and Playtech online casino software's that they appear to be the most secure and have the most of the encrypted type files over and above that of the other online casinos that are powered by other software providers that I have installed on my computer.

Re: Online casinos and how they work exactly
I don't think that there are too many people out there who are as technically capable to make those kinds of assessments on and about online casino software.
All online casino software works though in a way where you're playing off the casinos servers and the software client that you're actually playing on is in fact just communicating with the gaming servers to get a response that will provide it with details as to the results of a particular spin or hand in blackjack. It's all really quite simple in the actual transactional element of it all... But you'll never get anything that will help you to win or anything like this from the software that you'll find on the client. If however there was ever a time where you'd be able to get your hands on being able to alter server side code then yes you'd be able to manipulate spins, hands in blackjack, spins on the roulette wheel, etc... But this is impossible I would have to say.

Agreed I don't think that it's very likely that players can manipulate the outcome of games that are played though the client. The reason also I think they don't want people toying in changing any values in configuration files for the software is because they don't want people to mess up the casino software and then not be able to play firstly and secondly I think there may be some URL's that are referenced in some of these configuration files that they don't want people just hitting unless it's coming from within the online casino software client.

Interesting stuff! I would never think to look at this stuff. It makes sense though that things cannot be manipulated both on the client side and server side but especially on the server side. I think that it's really a good idea that all transactions always take place on the server side though otherwise you know that there would be people all the time trying to hack into things to gain an advantage or manipulate things to their advantage.

Would be really something if you could change some of these settings that are encrypted if it would give you some sort of an edge at the casinos!

Wouldn't that just be something though if you're able to manipulate the outcomes of games. NEVER going to happen people, lol... Wishful thinking though!

It's hard to know exactly how online casinos work or how casino software in general works but as long as you know the basics of everything I think that you're in good shape. It's key to know about odds and probabilities and things as such when playing and to understand exactly what casino games are in that they're games of chance whereby you're limited in your edge to make a difference that could result in your winning.
