Can You Read Poker Players Online?
When i first started to play poker online..i was very hesitant. I wondered how can i possibly read a player online? I soon learned it can be done!
As i sat at the table its amazing what can be picked up and observed by the online player. The person who plays tight....the person who bets every hand.
The important key is to watch the table. See how each one plays from hand to hand.
Can you read a player at the table...what do you look for?

Re: Can You Read Poker Players Online?
Reading poker players when playing online poker isn't like reading a poker player when they're sitting right in front of you. Playing online you really don't have the luxury of being able to look your opponents and observe their habits and tells if you will... However you can still pay attention to and observe players betting habits to better assess various patterns to deduce whether you think they're bluffing or hold a better hand then yourself. I think that with online poker this is by far the biggest thing that you can really observe as there isn't much else from what I know.

Re: Can You Read Poker Players Online?
As Angie has mentioned reading poker players online is different then it would be if you were to be playing in a traditional game with players that you can observe face to face.
Betting habits are definitely the most commonly used factor when analyzing the players at your table.
You may also want to look into software that can help you track hands and analyze player habits like this so you can better conclude how you want to react to certain actions taken in a round of play by players.
I also suggest that you check out and visit www.pokerlistings.com who are far more qualified to meet the needs of your poker questions then here on Casino Advisor which is a guide that is more so dedicated to online casino players.

Traditional reads in online poker are non existent however as everyone's been mentioning and discussing here reading your opponents by analyzing their betting habits is a sure way to get a better understanding and feel for your poker player.
I noticed that pokerlistings was mentioned here I also wanted to mention www.pokernews.com which is yet another top poker resource where you'll likely find helpful information pertaining to this subject.

Re: Can You Read Poker Players Online?
According to my friend, you can read an online player.
You watch for the amount of their bet and do they bet each time they are in a hand.
Are they trying to steal with that bet.
Also if they raise to steal pre-flop nearly every hand - I watch with care if they just call. They could be slow playing a good hand. Seen it a lot.
You mark good players (folders), observe the hands they play if it gets to the river and watch the fish for patterns of play. They are there you just gotta watch for them.
Player notes are a great way to learn about how a person plays - useful when returning to a site too

Re: Can You Read Poker Players Online?
Yes this is correct and you are 100% right that tracking and assessing a players habits based on their betting strategy is how you're going to go about figuring out how they play, when they may be bluffing, etc...
I think it's worth while to spend some real time grinding in an online poker room to get a good feel for this and develop this skill as it is quite different then playing against an opponent face to face.
Although I agree with some of the comments in this posting I do also agree and think that you can read online players as well!
