South African Online Gambling Warning
If you are an online punter or casino worker in South Africa, ponder yourself warned. The country with 40 casino licenses that have created more than 55,000 jobs will be questionable to pass any legislation to authorize online gambling.
South African Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies said that despite the fact that online casino operators are introducing a shop in South Africa, internet gambling reform will not be something that is overstretched to be legalized on his watch. Davies, whose constituent part formed the Gambling Review Commission made the declaration during a press conference held to discuss the Commission’s verdicts.
In its report, the Gambling Review Commission found that since its legalization in 1996, gambling has become a “small but maturing sector”, and has generated 1.5 Rands in tax proceeds for the government in addition to crafting 56,958 jobs industry wide in South Africa. Despite the many forms of gambling that are legalized in South Africa such as lotteries, casinos and horse racing; online gambling remains illegal with rigid penalties comprising up to 10 years in jail and a fine of equal to 10 million Rands.
