In a glittering function that lived up to the hype and expectations the eGaming Review Operator Awards were announced last week. Bet365 and Betfair topped the list of winners with three awards each, but it was Bet365 that won the more prestigious awards.

The most coveted award was that of the Operator of the Year. It covers performance across all online gambling sectors and this year the award went to Bet365. Bet365 edged out a galaxy of operators that included 888, Betsson, PartyGaming, Unibet and Betfair. Betfair was highly commended in this category. Though in terms of volume online poker is far ahead of online casino gambling, the latter has a glamour that is unbeatable. Bet365 won the Casino Operator of the Year award as well. The third award that went to Bet365 was the best website performance. This award was sponsored and judged by the website performance monitoring firm Gomez. Betfair won the awards for Innovation, Mobile Operator and UK Sports Betting Operator of the Year.

An award that carried much speculation was the outstanding contribution to the industry and this award went to Bwin. Both the co-founders of Bwin were there to accept the award. In his acceptance speech Manfred Bodner thanked the industry for ten fun years. Norbert Teufelberger said the award was really for the whole company. Bwin also won the European Sports Betting Operator of the Year. The Affiliate Program of the Year went to Virgin Games, which runs online gaming portals like Virgin Casino, Virgin Poker and Virgin Bingo. Virgin Games was also highly commended as the Socially Responsible Operator of the Year. This award was won by 888. A new category started this year was Slots Operator of the Year. This was a much awaited category because online slots are the heart and soul of casino gambling. The award was won by PartyGaming. The Bingo Operator of the Year went to Tombola and the Poker Operator of the Year went to PKR.

The EGR Awards offered plenty for the more than 800 delegates from the online gaming industry that had gathered for the show. The event was hosted by TV comedian Jack Whitehall, who kept the audience in splits. There was a lucky draw in which Extrabet's Tom Barley won first prize of iPad. Lisa Slocombe of Ladbrokes won the second prize of a weekend stay at South Lodge Hotel in Sussex, while Paddy Power's Isaac Ward won third prize of a Fortnum and Mason hamper. The EGR Awards was also an occasion for charity and funds were raised for Great Ormond Street Hospital, with PartyGaming donating £20,000. CalvinAyre.com, owner of Bodog brand organized the filming of the event.
