eCOGRA Ready for Danish Online GamblingBy: Adam Baker, Saturday April 14th 20120 Comments Email Print eCOGRA is an independent certification agency that tests and approves service providers to the online gambling industry. It began with accreditation for online casinos, but now covers all online gambling verticals and also software providers and affiliate programs. eCOGRA is also involved with setting regulatory benchmarks and dispute resolution. With the emergence of national regulators in most European nations the demands on the skills required of certification agencies have been increasing and eCOGRA has been found equal to the challenge. Now it has announced yet another upgrading of its resources that will enable it to take a leading role in the recently opened Denmark online gambling market. eCOGRA has announced that it has successfully completed a rigorous assessment by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service and obtained an extension to its International Organisation for Standardisation ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accreditation. This extension will enable eCOGRA to meet the requirements of the Technical Standards and Change Management Programme of the Danish Gambling Authority and allow it to offer its services in Denmark's online gambling market. Andrew Beveridge, the Chief Executive Officer of eCOGRA, revealed that the agency was now qualified to perform certification work and provide guidance to online gambling operators licensed by the Danish regulatory authority and also those who are applying for licenses to operate. The Danish regulatory authority has formulated five certification categories and the latest extension acquired by eCOGRA qualifies them to operate in all categories. These categories are gambling functions, business functions, preventative measures to counter money laundering of proceeds and financing of terrorism, vulnerability and penetration testing and change management. Beveridge pointed out that companies operating in the Denmark online gambling market have shown considerable interest in the services offered by eCOGRA. Many of these operators are eCOGRA certified in other jurisdictions. Beveridge is confident of securing assignments from about one third of the licensed operators in the Danish online gambling market. He further pointed out that since 2003 eCOGRA has accumulated considerable experience and expertise in this field through hundreds of technical and financial inspections, reviews and assessments for many prominent operators in the online gambling industry. The evolving and expanding regulatory scene in Europe is generating more business for eCOGRA. Denmark is not the first country whose online gambling regulatory authority has approved eCOGRA for certification of its licensees. eCOGRA holds such accreditation from the Italian regulator AIMS. When Spain ushered in a regulatory online gambling regime last year, eCOGRA received similar approvals. In February 2012, Beveridge was personally nominated among the top regulatory specialists by the business publication Gaming Intelligence.
