eCOGRA Gets International ApprovalsBy: Mark Freedman, Thursday August 25th 20110 Comments Email Print eCOGRA is the independent agency that audits, evaluates and grants certificates of approval to online casinos, software providers and other online gambling portals. In an announcement just made, eCOGRA has stated that its system of working has been approved by two important international authorities, the Italian regulator AAMS and the Geneva based international standards authority ISO. The announcement said that on July 22, 2011 eCOGRA was awarded the ISO approval ISO/IEC 17025:2005. This implies that eCOGRA meets the general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. The accreditation is one of the quality assurance requirements for approval as a testing agency in various European online gambling licensing jurisdictions and is given only to those testing agencies that meet the stringent systems oriented requirements and standards set by ISO. ISO was founded in 1947. It is an international standards setting body composed of representatives from various national standards organisations. It operates through over 2700 technical committees, subcommittees and working groups. The organisation creates worldwide industrial and commercial standards and of late has been active in the online gambling arena. Perhaps the more important approval is from the Italian online gambling regulator Autonomous Administration of the State Monopolies or AAMS. AAMS sets dedicated market standards and requirements for operators in the Italian market and grants and monitors licenses. The Italian online gambling market began with regulation in a limited way which has just been expanded to cover casino games and will take up poker cash games later this year. This accreditation empowers eCOGRA to act as a testing and monitoring agency for online gambling software platforms, random number generators and online casino operator applications for compliance with the technical standards issued by AAMS. It will allow the Italian gaming operators to make use of eCOGRA's services. Andrew Beveridge, chief executive officer of eCOGRA, congratulated his IT and audit staff on the achievement of the two new important accreditations and lauded their professional commitment to the highest international standards. He said, "Promoting the values of commitment and self-regulation, and preparing remote gambling companies for the national regulatory systems now evolving, remains a critical part of our business, and eCOGRA will continue to pursue testing agency approval in other emerging jurisdictions to ensure that we can provide a full-service offering which meets all of our client's regulatory compliance needs." Beveridge took this opportunity to announce that eCOGRA was working with other online gambling jurisdictions and expected to get further approvals soon. It was willing and able to serve both existing and new clients interested in the regulatory requirements of the emerging licensing jurisdictions, and could assist them in meeting these requirements.
