Cryptologic Signs Up LadbrokesBy: Ryan Alders, Tuesday August 18th 20090 Comments Email Print Ladbrokes has become the 25th licensee of Cryptologic since the latter has embarked on a signing spree for putting a selection of its games on the web sites of other operators. This was announced through a press release by Cryptologic on August 17 from its headquarters at Dublin. The licensing agreement will run for three years and Cryptologic will provide three of its most popular betting games to Ladbrokes. Cryptologic is a leading online gaming software provider. The licensee is not Ladbrokes Casino, which is powered by Microgaming. It is the Ladbrokes Games portal that operates through Orbis Technology. Ladbrokes Games offers different types of betting games such as Table Games, Card Games, Slots, Virtual Games, Scratch Cards and Arcade Games. The Cryptologic games will fall in the Arcade Games section. The three games that Cryptologic has agreed to provide are Bejeweled, Cubis and Jenga. Bejeweled has already gone live at Ladbrokes Games. Cubis is scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2009 and Jenga will follow in the fourth quarter. The choice of games is significant. The three games are not from the Marvel Comics branded slots that Cryptologic usually offers to its licensees. Cryptologic classifies these games as Casual Slots. These are based on popular branded offline puzzle games. Bejeweled, for example, is a game that has "sold more than 25 million copies and been downloaded over 350 million times" according to the press release. In Cubis the matrix format of the reels is replaced by three faces of a cube. Smaller colored cubes act as symbols and create winning combinations. Jenga is a recent release. In this game towers are formed by colored blocks and payouts are received if adjacent blocks happen to be of the same color. Both Cubis and Jenga pay out a maximum of 50,000 times the bet. Ladbrokes is beyond doubt a precious acquisition for Cryptologic. Originating in 1886, Ladbrokes today is the world’s largest fixed-odds betting company. Its Internet operations have over 750,000 active customers for the several online gambling products it offers. The betting is offered in 18 currencies and 18 languages. Brian Hadfield, President and CEO of Cryptologic, acknowledged the importance of having Ladbrokes as a Cryptologic licensee. He said, "Ladbrokes is a highly respected brand in the betting industry and this licensing agreement not only consolidates Cryptologic’s position as the world’s top developer of innovative content but is an important step towards our goal to return to profitability and long term growth." Paul Austin, Commercial Manager at Ladbrokes, in turn elucidated on the importance of these Cryptologic games to Ladbrokes. He said that Ladbrokes Games desires to "remain at the cutting edge of the industry" and offer its customers "the best quality gaming content". He said that these innovative Cryptologic games will help Ladbrokes to achieve those objectives.
