Computer Specifications Are Important For GamingBy: Joan Peppin, Monday January 19th 20091 Comment Email Print The gaming software is provided by the online casino but is run on the computer system of the player. Therefore if either of the two is not up to the mark then the gaming experience will suffer. Because online gaming is a rich audio-visual application it requires better hardware resources than merely word processing or computing applications. This is the reason most online casinos specify both minimum and recommended hardware requirements. With the minimum requirements the gaming software will run but it may be slow or unclear. If a pleasurable gaming experience is required then players should install hardware of the recommended capacity. One of the most important specifications is RAM or the Random Access Memory. This is where the computer stores data as it uses an application. When an application is running the memory requirement increases. For example when a hand in blackjack is dealt the computer needs to store the details of the cards. When the deal is over this information is no longer required. If there is insufficient RAM then the gaming application will not be able to store the required information on the player's computer. If the RAM is just about sufficient then the application will run but very slowly because time will be lost in searching for free memory space where to store the new data. Today the recommended internal RAM specification is 2GB. Gaming is a graphics rich application. Therefore a video or graphics card is essential. A video card collects the inputs and generates an image on a display device. If the graphics card is not good then the image quality will suffer. The images may be blurred or pixilated or of poor color tone. Imagine the let down if hearts do not appear as red but some shade of orange or if it becomes difficult to differentiate between the spades and the clubs. The player should install a graphics card of good make with at least 256 MB of built in RAM. NVIDIA or ATI video cards provide the best value for money. Ultimately the visuals are seen on the monitor. If the monitor is not of proper resolution then the images will be of poor quality despite a good video card. The larger the screen size the larger will be the images. The higher the resolution of the monitor the sharper will be the images. The recommended resolution is 800 x 600 with 16 bit color. Similar to visuals a good sound card and good speakers will enhance the audio quality. Online gaming software keeps evolving. It will impose larger requirements on the hardware in the coming days. It is costly and inconvenient to keep changing the hardware. Therefore when a player buys hardware he should buy the largest capacity available at that time. This may cost a bit more but will save headaches later on. I remember that on my old computer some of the casino software I was playing was king of sluggish when animations were playing such as the spinning of slots reels, the dealing of cards in blackjack and other table games, etc... When I upgraded my system and bought a new Dell machine I really noticed a difference in the performance of the games. It's definitely a good idea to have a half decent computer if you really want to take advantage and enjoy the gaming expereince as it was meant to be.
