Bonus Imbroglio At Spin Palace CasinoBy: Adam Baker, Friday May 29th 20090 Comments Email Print Spin Palace is a Microgaming online casino that has been approved as safe and fair by eCOGRA. Hence it came as a surprise to many when a new customer of Spin Palace Casino posted a complaint against it in the Pitch A Bitch section of Casinomeister. The full story is as follows. A customer named Anthony opened an account at Spin Palace Casino with a deposit of £150 and got a 100% matching bonus. He then wagered his balance of £300 on 3 Card Poker. The first three hands in which he wagered £120, £60 and £90 did not result in payouts. Anthony then wagered the balance £30 and hit a straight flush with the payout of £2700. He was unable to withdraw this amount because he had not met the wagering requirements. Therefore Anthony played slots to meet the wagering requirements and was left with a balance of £2400. When he requested for a withdrawal of this amount he was asked by Spin Palace to produce identification and was also offered a 20% bonus on the full amount if he cancelled his withdrawal. He furnished the identification and refused the offer. Two days later he received a shock at being sent only £150. Spin Palace Casino informed him that his winnings had been confiscated because he had violated a casino rule. The rule was that the player had placed single bets using his entire or the majority of his account balance and bonus, which is considered as irregular gaming for bonus wagering requirements. Going by the letter of the rule there was no doubt that Anthony had violated it. His third bet was 75% of his balance and his last bet was 100% of his balance. However it is equally obvious that the rule is absurd. Even after 100 wagers if the player is left with £1 and he wagers it he will be wagering 100% of his balance. If the rule is taken in spirit rather than in a letter then it should be construed as entire or the majority of his initial bonus and deposit. And Anthony did not violate that. Fortunately for Anthony, his story has a happy ending. Bryan Bailey, the webmaster of Casinomeister, read Anthony's post and acknowledged that Anthony had a right to be aggrieved. The question was that even though Anthony had violated the rule, the rule was an unfair one in the first place. Bailey took up the issue with Spin Palace Casino. Even though the online casino was on sound legal ground they took a broader view of the episode and paid the entire winnings to Anthony. Not only that, they have also modified the concerned rule so that it now reflects what it should have been intended to.
