In Blackjack you are always going to be playing against the dealer. This means the other players at the table are not going to affect how you should play your hands. The hands should be played based on the charts of when to hit, stand, double, or split. We have a chart below that is going to look at the odds regarding what could happen on any given hand.

This chart shows you the odds of busting if you decide to take a hit. In other words it is just another way to look at how you need to handle the cards in front of you. You will notice that the odds of busting if you take a hit when you have 15 or over is extremely high. In other words if you have 15 total points you will bust at least 58 percent of the time. Look below at 14 total. You can still bust at 56 percent of the time if you take a third card.

The point in this chart is to show you the odds, and to make you realize the odds are the same for the house. The dealer is going to have the same chance to bust if they have 14 total. The difference is for the house the dealer must take another card when they have 15 below. For some casinos if they have 16 total or below they must take a hit, no matter what. The house doesn't have any thought on its own. They must play the rules and that is all. They can't think about the odds. This is in your favor, but again there is the house edge to contend with.

The above chart is to help you further in the odds department. You will notice the odds or probabilities are listed above the types of hands you can get. To get a natural 21 the odds are against you. The likelihood of that natural is 4.8 percent. The chance that you will get a hand with 1 through 17 as the total is 38.7 percent. That is relatively high and the most common hands you will see. There is also a percent of 28 that you will not bust. In other terms that is 72 percent of a chance that you will bust during each round. As you can see the odds are stacked against you. You just need to figure out your strategy and how much you are willing to risk based on the odds to have a better strategy. The odds are mathematical, which means they are fact based over superstition or other thoughts that you could have. The odds will win you more.
